About breathtable

breathtable is a free trainer for dry breath-hold tables — the CO2 and O2 tables freedivers use on land. It guides every breath with the screen, sound and vibration, so you can lie back, close your eyes and follow instead of watching a clock.

Why it exists

Counting seconds while you try to relax works against the relaxing. Most table timers only tell you when to hold and when to breathe. breathtable also paces the breathing in between: a relaxed breathe-up, the final breath timed to end exactly as the hold begins, and recovery breaths after every hold.

How the tables and breathing are set up

The defaults follow conventions that freediving instructors and training organisations describe, and each guide lists its sources:

You can change every time to suit you. The one fixed limit is a minimum rest of 0:30, so the recovery breaths and the final breath always fit.

Your data

There are no accounts. Your personal best, tables, settings and history are stored in your own browser and never sent to us. The site uses Google Analytics to see how the trainer is used and Google AdSense for ads; the privacy policy explains what that involves.

What it isn’t

breathtable is not medical advice and not a substitute for a freediving course. Never practise breath holds in or near water, and don’t train alone. Read the safety guide before your first table.
